ECI, Restoration & Fit-out
A revived office fit-out enabled FromHereOn to create a spectacular modern office space inside a heritage site.
The architecture consultants commissioned Building Guild to realise the vision imagined by the team at Siren Design.
The new workspace sees the dynamic and enterprising design and architecture consultancy utilising a stunning heritage building.
Working within the envelope of an iconic and heritage listed site, located in central Sydney, overlooking the urban hub of Barangaroo. Originally constructed in 1847 and located next to the historic Bond building, it sits in the top two floors of the original Australian Gas Light property, an iconic 170-year-old heritage-listed building, cut five storeys high into a sheer sandstone cliff.
A constricted eight-week building program encompassed high-specification components, including complex joinery, a spectacular bar and restoration of the interior staircase – all completed within a heritage framework.
The floating staircase required complex structural modifications to create the interconnecting flight of stairs.
The workplace created the opposite of ABW (activity-based working), with hot desks and no home for the employee.
We were engaged under Early Contractor Involvement, working with Siren, to provide advice and recommendations on the construction and historically significant aspects of the project.
The From Here On workplace has since received a gold award in the 2018 Sydney Design Awards for the interior design within the co-working studio space category.
