We delivered a comprehensive hotel redevelopment for Shaws Bay Hotel, located at 3 Brighton Street, East Ballina, transforming the iconic waterfront venue into a contemporary hospitality destination while preserving its relaxed coastal character. Commissioned by Parras Hospitality, this large-scale project spanned 3,700 sqm and was completed over a 28-week programme, encompassing major structural works, extensive external upgrades, and a full internal fit-out.
The project involved a complete structural building upgrade and expansion, with all services upgraded and tied into multiple council mains. The original bungalow-style venue underwent a significant infrastructure overhaul, allowing for the extension of the hotel to include a striking indoor-outdoor pavilion positioned along the tranquil riverfront, as well as the creation of a new intimate covered courtyard that enhances the venue’s connection to its coastal surroundings. The overall design reflects a beach-inspired, modern curated aesthetic, delivering a relaxed yet refined atmosphere throughout.
Interiors were masterfully designed by Luchetti Krelle, one of Australia’s most respected hospitality design studios. To realise the design vision, the project required the removal of the upper half of the existing roof structure and the installation of rustic feature trusses at centres not exceeding 3 metres. Notably, all works were completed without removing or replacing the existing roof or roof sheeting, demonstrating a high level of technical expertise, planning, and precision construction methodology.
The internal fit-out included the construction of a new feature bar and fully equipped commercial kitchen, designed to support high-volume service while maintaining strong visual impact and operational efficiency. Finishes, fixtures, and detailing were carefully executed to align with the refined coastal design language established by the architect.
Externally, the scope of works extended to a complete reconstruction of the front car park, along with full tiling of the pedestrian pathways leading toward the beach, continuing through the courtyard spaces to create a seamless transition between the built environment and the surrounding landscape. Additional landscaping works at the rear of the venue, adjacent to the beach and riverfront, further enhanced the venue’s appeal as a destination for both locals and visitors.
The project comprised approximately $1.5–$2 million in in-ground services and statutory infrastructure, with no expense spared to ensure longevity, compliance, and performance. Working within a coastal environment required careful coordination, durability-focused material selection, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements, all of which were delivered successfully by our team.
In conclusion, the Shaws Bay Hotel redevelopment highlights our commitment to excellence in construction, collaboration with leading hospitality designers, and our ability to bring ambitious design visions to life. The result is a thoughtfully crafted venue that attracts tourists and locals alike, ensuring its success for years to come.
