Bar Fitout and Refurbishment

The project and the viability of the bar was under real threat. What we asked of The Building Guild was all but impossible and they responded with a workable solution which didn’t threaten the design. Best of all, they delivered and we’d be happy to work with them again.

The Rook bar and restaurant is a wonderful story of opportunity meeting entrepreneurship in the Sydney CBD. Keystone Group (Cargo Bar, Bungalow 8, The Sugar Mill, The Winery, The Gazebo and The Newtown Hotel), came across the York Street loft site while it was in a state of disrepair. Perched atop a commercial building, the small, but heavily themed space is one of Sydney’s unique rooftop bars, featuring recycled timber panelling and exposed steel fused with moody lighting to Sydney’s own New York loft style bar. Within the eight-week programme, a key feature of the project involved creating an open air, loft-style space which allows cool air into the bar, delivering a New York rooftop vibe. The Rook is a distinctive bar with a deeply-embedded theme which is unlike any other spot in Sydney’s colourful nightlife scene.
